It was a shock when our client, Real Plaza, knocked on our door asking if it was feasible to EDGE certify a 250,000+ m2 (2,690,000+ sq. ft.) shopping mall in Lima, Peru. The Real Plaza Puruchuco Mall was already under construction, and we had to complete a self-assessment to verify that it would comply with the EDGE standard. Luckily, the project complied with all requirements and even exceeded the minimum 20% predicted savings threshold for water use and embodied energy in materials. We had to quickly train the project contractors, architects, engineers, as well as our client, so the project would achieve EDGE Certification. It took us a year and a half to achieve the goal.
